Shaking Off the Rust

I told a friend earlier this week that getting back to shooting full time after such a long hiatus is similar to trying to get back into the routine of exercising again. Maybe you were used to throwing up 200 pounds on the bench press or running three miles easy, but now you get winding after a mile and can barely lift the bar.

That's how it's been so far in Saginaw. I'm having to acclimate myself to the things that used to be routine just a few years ago, but there's nothing wrong with that. Probably for the best it's been a really slow first couple of weeks. While I would love to have three or four assignments a day, it's been more beneficial to have just one and take my time on it.

So far I've been taking all the cliche pictures I can, to get those out of the way and get back into photographic shape. That way I can start focusing on making interesting and better frames. It's a process, and I'm not expecting to see any wild results any time soon. Right now I just couldn't be more happier to be where and am and doing what I'm doing.

Stephen White of Saginaw fishes with his 2-year-old son, Samuel Oberson, during the Catch Me If You Can Family Fishing Festival at Haithco Recreation Area, 2121 Schust in Saginaw Township. "We fish a couple of times a week and he's caught a lot," White said. "But he has a 10-second attention span, so some days are easier than others," he joked.

Julian was found guilty later that same day and is awaiting sentencing. His brother, Craig Julian, is already serving a life sentence without parole for helping dispose of Spicer's body.

Sneaky Celebration

After hearing future Hall of Famer Nicklas Lidstrom retire earlier in the week, I scoured through my old hockey pictures to see if I had any good pictures of him. I didn't, but I found a frame that intrigued me that I had never noticed before. Probably isn't going in the portfolio or anything, but figured it was worth posting.
